Mississauga

anecdotes

A collection of short stories and articles

We undertook a creative writing project for the city of Mississauga. We printed 500 copies of book Mississauga Anecdotes. This book is a collection of short stories and articles written by community members who have a strong connection with the city of Mississauga.

This project is based on a strong belief that each individual has a story to tell about the place where we grow up, live in or leave for some reason. Our book is an outcome of the matching grant provided by the city of Mississauga as a strategy for creative placemaking.

The stories and articles of this book are the reflection of people’s experiences about social environment, systemic barriers, inequalities, challenges of migration as refugees, people of color and marginalized communities.
MEHAR has also selected a few stories to feature the individual and organizational success in order to inspire community members to nurture entrepreneurship. Through this project MEHAR was able to involve individuals who have passion for creative writing and have incredibly empowering stories to share. As the recent years have been especially hard for most of the community members due to the global humanitarian crisis caused by COVID-19, we have also attempted to capture the survival stories of personal battles with a brutal pandemic.

This book is not a professional publication but a true outcome of our community engagement initiative.
